About Winslow
Railroads, Route 66, and the Spirit of the Southwest
Founded in 1880, Winslow began as a bustling railroad town for the Atlantic and Pacific Railway. Its strategic location along the rail line — and later along Historic Route 66 — made it a vital pit stop for travelers, dreamers, and entrepreneurs crossing the American Southwest.
Winslow’s heritage lives on in its historic downtown and iconic landmarks like the La Posada Hotel — a jewel of the Fred Harvey era — offering a glimpse into a timeless piece of Americana. Within its walls, you’ll find the Turquoise Room, one of Arizona’s most celebrated restaurants, known for blending Native American and Southwestern flavors in an elegant, historic setting. It’s a must-stop destination for travelers, food lovers, and history buffs alike.
Now, Winslow is blending history with innovation. With its tri-modal infrastructure — a rail line, a city-owned airport, and direct access to Interstate 40 — Winslow is perfectly positioned for growth.
That’s why the upcoming I-40 TradePort development is putting Winslow on the map for regional logistics, distribution, and long-term economic opportunity. The city’s past paved the way — and now, its location is driving the future.
Made Famous by the Eagles — Kept Alive by the Community
In 1972, the Eagles released “Take It Easy,” with the now-iconic line:
“Well, I'm a-standin' on a corner in Winslow, Arizona…”
What started as a song lyric became a cultural landmark. The Standing on the Corner Park, complete with murals, statues, and guitar sculptures, draws thousands of visitors every year — eager to stand, pose, and sing along.
Each year, the community hosts a Standing on the Corner Festival to celebrate Winslow’s place in music history and the ongoing love for the Eagles. The event has grown so large, it’s now held at the Eagle Pavilion — located just behind the Chamber of Commerce building — offering a stage, seating, and room for vendors, food trucks, and live performances.
This tribute honors the musical legacy and community that made it come alive. Winslow embraced the line — and built a destination.
Connecting Businesses and Building Community
Housed in the beautifully restored Hubbell Trading Post at 523 W. Second Street, the Winslow Chamber of Commerce serves as the heartbeat of the city’s business and tourism efforts.
The Chamber is where community connection thrives — hosting the popular “Good Morning Winslow” networking breakfast every first Wednesday of the month. It’s where local businesses, leaders, and visitors come together to collaborate and grow.
Whether you're visiting, relocating, or opening a business, the Chamber is your welcome guide to Winslow's vibrant spirit and economic opportunity.
